Summer allergies
Here in Texas it is hot and dry and te air is full of allergens to irritate your pets skin. It is heartbreaking to watch your pets scratch endlessly with seemingly no relief. Many animals that I see around this time of year have the tell tell signs including dull coats and thinning hair. Summer allergies can be distracting and discomforting for a seamingly healthy pet.
There are many ways that you can soothe your itchy pets. Some of the most succesful treatments I have found:
• feed premium food - often costs just a bit more but can boost your pets immune system.
A premium food will be high in potien and low in fiber. Talk to your veterinarian about your pets nutritional needs.
• bathe pets regularly - in a perfect world, pets would get a bathe once a week but with our sometimes busy schedules this seems to be a low priority. Bathing your pets at least once every three weeks and using soap specially formulated for
Dogs skin can ease the itchiness. (although Pantene ProV keeps my pets skin very moisturizer and their coat silky and soft)
• some over the counter medicines can be helpful but I have found that they give my pets a "drugged" apearance. I'm not sure if the effect I am giving them is worse or better than their constant scratching but they do seem to stop being so scratchy for at least a little while.
These are some of the things that have helped my pets during the "dog days of summer"
Please comment below with any of your suggestions.
Have a wonderful holiday!

Tank on Tuesday
We have got a lot to talk about today people! Mom has been running around here like a crazy woman for the past few days. Good thing I get plenty of beauty rest while she is at work, otherwise I might not be able to keep up.
First things first, we have visitors this week. Sugar and Sparky, or "Barky" as we like to call him, are staying with us while their parents are on vacation. Mom has set up a makeshift doggy daycare for them in the kitchen. The good thing about this arrangement is we get to eat in the living room which I like because I would just rather dine on carpet. Ninja cat is not too thrilled about the whole situation though. He usually spends a lot of his time in the kitchen, I guess because its a pretty quiet place for a cat. Well, dad said that Sugar and Sparky might go home tomorrow so maybe we will have our routine back soon.
Then, last night, Mom and Dad were gone all night. You know, I don't really ask for much but I do need my mommy time and when they work all day and then leave all night it really cuts into my time with mom. Mom said they were at school with Dad because he is going to go back to school very soon which we are all very happy about, especially me cause you know what that means???? More time alone with MOM!!
It's a busy at our house lately but as long as I got Mom, Dad, Mo, Rocket, and that stinkin' cat Ninja and a bucket full of doggie treats I guess I don't have too much to complain about.
Well, until next week . . .

Tank on Tuesday
HI!! My name is Tank, and my mom has asked me to be her guest *star* on Tuesdays.
This is me and my mom when I was just a little guy
So last night my mom was telling me about Take Your Dog to Work Day and I was so excited!! I thought maybe I would get to spend all day with my mom while she was at work, but she then told me that unfortunately I would not be going. She told me that my job protecting the house while she and dad were away was a very important job!
But for some of you other lucky pups out there, mark your calendars!! Friday 6/24/11 is Take Your Dog to Work Day. This day was founded by Pet Sitters International to celebrate the companion animal relationship and to encourage adoption from local shelters. Hey! My little brother Rocket is from a local animal shelter!
Are your parents participating in Take Your Dog to Work Day? Time to bring out the Pet Taxi and pack up your bones and go strut your stuff at mom or dad's workplace!!
Be sure to come back on tell us all about it!!
Until next week....

Hot dogs are better on the grill
Summer heat can affect pets in many of the same ways it affects people. Avoiding overheating is as simple as remembering the basics.

Pets on the go
Summer vacation time is finally here. All you bags are packed, the gas tank is topped off and the whole family is anxious to get out on the open road, but what about Fido and Fifi?
