Summer allergies

Here in Texas it is hot and dry and te air is full of allergens to irritate your pets skin. It is heartbreaking to watch your pets scratch endlessly with seemingly no relief. Many animals that I see around this time of year have the tell tell signs including dull coats and thinning hair. Summer allergies can be distracting and discomforting for a seamingly healthy pet.
There are many ways that you can soothe your itchy pets. Some of the most succesful treatments I have found:
• feed premium food - often costs just a bit more but can boost your pets immune system.
A premium food will be high in potien and low in fiber. Talk to your veterinarian about your pets nutritional needs.
• bathe pets regularly - in a perfect world, pets would get a bathe once a week but with our sometimes busy schedules this seems to be a low priority. Bathing your pets at least once every three weeks and using soap specially formulated for
Dogs skin can ease the itchiness. (although Pantene ProV keeps my pets skin very moisturizer and their coat silky and soft)
• some over the counter medicines can be helpful but I have found that they give my pets a "drugged" apearance. I'm not sure if the effect I am giving them is worse or better than their constant scratching but they do seem to stop being so scratchy for at least a little while.

These are some of the things that have helped my pets during the "dog days of summer"

Have a wonderful holiday!
